JEE Main Cut Offs

JEE Main is an essential and one of the toughest exams to crack to get an admission in the prestigious institutions of the country like IITs and NITs. It’s the cutoffs that play a major role in deciding which institute you will most likely join. The JEE Main cutoff marks refers to the minimum marks an aspirant must score to qualify the exam and make it to the merit list.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) decides the cutoff on the basis of:

  1. Total number of candidates appearing for the examination.
  2. Total annual intake of engineering colleges participating in the examination.
  3. Previous year’s cutoff, and
  4. The difficulty level of the examination held.

The JEE Main Cutoff for registration to JEE Advanced in different categories are:

Besides the cutoff list of JEE Main exam, all the institutes also release their own cutoff lists for admission to their various courses open for all JEE aspirants. Engineering colleges decide their JEE Main – Opening and Closing Rank and their cutoff scores on the basis of:

  1. Number of applicants they have for different courses,
  2. Number of seats they have in different courses.

Candidates who qualify the JEE Mains and make to the Common Merit List register themselves for the next crucial exam of an engineering aspirant’s life: JEE Advanced. This year approximately 12 lakh candidates from over 350 centers across India appeared for Papers 1 and 2 of the JEE Mains exam.
