With reference to the statement- The political atmosphere in Berlin was charged with demands for ‘soviet-style governance’........ Those opposed met in Weimar to give shape to the democratic republic. Explain the terms- ‘soviet style governance’ and ‘democratic republic’

Solution: Soviet-style government means a government where the means of all production come under the domain of government. Hence the subsidies and welfare policies became an obligation for such government. Private corporations had negligible production functions. The rule of a single political party often got established. For example, the private sector did not have any presence in Russia.

There were some people in Germany who also supported this idea of having a communist government in Germany as well. But the people like socialists, Democrats, and Catholics, favored the democratic republic government. The election on the basis of Universal adult franchise is a must condition. The means of production in such government are owned by both elected government as well as private corporations.
When this demand for soviet style government rises the Weimar republic crushed this movement with the help of a war veterans' organization known as Free cops.
