Why do you think there was no constitution in earlier times

Dear Student,

a. One cannot argue that constitutions did not exist in earlier times
b. As rules and regulation to govern the states have always been in place.
c. However, earlier times were mostly characterised by monarchial regimes with king at the helm of affairs.
d. Such regimes did not have constitutions per say , in the name of the people, but rather based their governance on set norms and on the advise of their trusted nobility.
e. It was the king who delivered justice and supervised all the administrative units.
f. Such an absolute system of governance had both written and unwritten set of rules, but not constitutions which is rather a modern terminology.
g.  The idea of constitution has so been known from the American war of Independence, French revolution where people established governments based on consent and sought to limit the powers of the government.
