Why do we need standard Meridian

India uses a standard meridian to set a uniform time for the entire country. The local time at the standard meridian is considered the standard time for the entire country. This is required because India is a large country. Without a standard meridian, different regions of the country will be in different time zones which will make coordination of economic activities difficult.
