What were the reasons for disunity amongst the Indians during the early british period ?

The reasons behind the disunity among Indians during the early British period was the weakening and the break-up of the Mughal empire. Once the empire started breaking up, various regional powers emerged who engaged in a power struggle between themselves. The British were able to take advantage of that power struggle and establish their own rule.
