what is valvet, twisted, imbricate and vexillary aestivation ?

these are the aestivation of the flower i.e,how the petals are arranged on the floral axis with respect to each other.

twisted-in this type, one margin or end of petals is dominating/overlapping to the other and other is dominated by other/overlapped.

valvate-in this type the end of petals just slightly touch each other but are not overlapping or ovrlapped.

vexillary-the petals are five in no. in which one is superior and posterior.it is biggest of all petals and is called vexillum, other two are laterally arranged and overlapped by vexillum and called alae.the rest 2 are inferior and interior, they are overlapped by alae.

These are the types of aestivation.

Valvate :- when petals or sepals just touch without any overlapping. eg. :- mustard

Twisted :- It is also known as countorted. When one margin of each petal overlapes the margin of adjacent petal and other margin overlaped by margin of another adjacent petal.

Imbricate :- It is the aestivation of 5 petals, where 1 is exterior,1 is interior and rest 3 are having one margin exterior and other interior.

Vaxillary :- It is the characterstic aestivation of corolla of pea. The standard petal is large and overlapes the 2 wing petals which inturn overlap the 2 keel or carina petals.

Their is one more type of aestivation i.e. quincuncial :- Here 2 petals are exterior,2 petals are interior and the 5th one is having one margin exterior and one margin interior
