What is the importance of membrane in the Chlor Alkali Process? What does the Flow of anions and cations show?

Solution:
The semi-permeable membrane of the cell allows for the sodium ions to travel to a second chamber, where they react with water to produce sodium hydroxide.
Chloride ions will move to anode and will get oxidised to give chlorine gas (Cl2). Sodium ions get reduced at cathode and will react with water to give NaOH (sodium hydroxide)
