Iqta was a kind of territorial assignment, a big or a small piece of land given to an iqtedar , who used it to distribute among the army. Iqtas were used for maintenance of army, for charitable purposes, for revenue etc


a. The Delhi sultans appointed military commander as governors of territories, the holder of these lands or iqta were called Muqtis,
b. These military commanders who were given land grants and were called muqtis had to maintain law and order.
c. They had to to lead military campaigns.
d. Muqtis also had to collect taxes and revenue, a part of which was kept as salary.
