Q.10. State the changes that takes place in the uterus when :
(i) Implantation of embryo has occurred.
(ii) Female egg/gamete is not fertilised.

Dear student,

1. When implantation of embryo has occurred, the uterine wall gets thickened. The zygote will form a blastocyst, and then implants itself in the walls of the uterus. The wall of the uterus is richly supplied with blood to nourish the growing embryo. During birth, the cervix gradually opens and the baby is released through the vagina.

2. When the egg is not fertilised, this unfertilised egg along with blood and mucous form a flow which leaves the uterus. This is known as menstruation.
