As given : Each pair of consecutive sides are at right angle , So we form our diagram , As :

Here , ABCD , PQRS and EFGH are rectangle

And we know area of rectangle  =  Length $\times$ Breadth , So

Area of rectangle ABCD  =  AB $\times$ AD =  3 $\times$ 12  =  36 cm² ,

Area of rectangle PQRS =  PQ $\times$ QR =  3 $\times$ 12  =  36 cm²

And

Area of rectangle EFGH =  EF $\times$ FG =  5 $\times$ 4  =  20  cm²

Therefore,

Area of given shape  =  Area of rectangle ABCD + Area of rectangle PQRS + Area of rectangle EFGH , Substitute all values we get :

Area of given shape  = 36 + 36 + 20 =  92 cm²                                               ( Ans )
