Dear student,

Yes the poor do have the right to dream. The author calls Mukesh's dream a mirage because his socio-economic conditions. Mukesh belonged to a family of bangle makers and his ancestors had spent all their lives in a dark, glass furnace, making colourful bangles. None of them had ever tried anything else as a profession in life. Mukesh wanted to be a motor mechanic but it appeared to be a distant dream. Mukesh did not have the access to favourable conditions or the kind of education required to be a motor mechanic. His dream was like an illusion, he wished to be someone he could never be because of the condition of his family. According to his grandmother. he was predestined to work in a glass factory like his forefathers.
