Mention 3 ways in which social changes took place in medieval India.

Dear Student,

Please find below the solution to the asked query:

Three ways in which social changes in medieval India took place were

1. Emergence of new religions like Islam and Sikhism, which promoted greater equality among believers than Hinduism. Many people from the lower castes in Hinduism converted to Islam to escape caste discrimination.

2. New movements like Bhakti and Sufi movements tried to bring in reforms within Hinduism and Islam. Such movements promoted greater devotion to God and were critical of elaborate religious ceremonies.

3. Arrival of Europeans like the Portuguese, British and French who brought in new ideas to India. For example, new items of food like potatoes, tomatoes, chillies etc. became important parts of Indian food after the arrival of Europeans.
