Dear student,

Here is a sample of an essay on the topic: Importance of Festivals

A festival is an auspicious day, or a period comprising many days, of cultural, social, community, regional, or religious celebration for a society or a nation. Festivals are an important part of our life. Festivals can be celebrated for religious purposes, change of seasons, harvest, beginning of new year, achievements in battles in ancient times, and to mark any important mission like the clean Ganges festival, good health festival etc. Thus festivals have taken a whole new form in our life too.

Celebrating festivals has lots of advantages. They connect us to our history, roots, religion, traditions, culture and folklore. They also bring colour and beauty to our lives. The rituals and traditions keep us engaged in fun activities and we come together as family, neighbourhood and cities.

Festivals relieve us from the monotony of daily routine. They Break the daily grind of work and more work and give us an opportunity to be laid back and just enjoy. During festivals we eat our favourite local cuisine, decorate the houses, clean our surroundings, we even look after our cattle and other animals and that makes us more humane and gentle in our approach to others around us. We seek blessings of elders and thus understand family values.

Festivals are a great way to promote cultural and national harmony and integration.  They teach us to forget the divide in our society and to embrace everyone irrespective of their religion or caste. The moral, ethical and cultural values of the entire nation also becomes better due to this. National festivals like Independence day or Republic day are very crucial to bring a sense of national pride in every citizen.
Thus we can say that festivals are very important for our lives.
