Dear Student
Thorny vegetation:
a. Deserts are generally characterised by less vegetation cover because of hot and arid weather conditions.
b. The desert area has thorny bushes, shrubs, cactus, some areas have date palms, eucalyptus trees
c. Most of the desert plants can survive even in extreme drought like conditions by storing waters in their tissues. We may give example of cacti or rock plants.
d. The soil in the desert is sandy , rocky, fine textured or shallow.
Mountain vegetation:
a. In mountainous region the change in vegetation is impacted by temperature variation.
b. Decrease in temperature with increasing altitude impacts the nature of vegetation.
c. In India, the high altitude mountains of the Himalayas are characterised by evergreen coniferous trees, such as pine, fir, oak, maple, spruce, deodar, etc.
d. The Western Ghats mountain region has lesser altitude than the Himalayas, and receives very heavy rainfall. This zone has tropical evergreen forests with prominent tree species as ebony, rosewood, bamboo, etc.
