Between CO and CO2 which diffuses faster ? and whats the reason ??

According to Graham's law, the rate of diffusion of a molecule is inversely proportional to the square root of molecular mass of the molecule.  So, molecular mass of CO= 38 and CO2  = 44.

So, CO2 /CO = √(38/44)

Thus, CO diffuses faster than carbon dioxide.

This is because Carbon dioxide is about 25 times more soluble in water than oxygen at body temperature. Carbon dioxide is more soluble because a chemical reaction takes place with water when it dissolves forming Carbonic acid when combined with water. There is no chemical reaction taking place when oxygen dissolves in water.

rate of diffusion is inversely proportional to the square root of molecular weight. Hence their order of diffusion is  CO >CO2

hope it helped .... best of luck :))
