Nepal: The popular movement in Nepal was aimed at restoring democracy. King Gyanendra of Nepal was not prepared to be a constitutional monarch. He dismissed the Parliament in 2005. All political parties formed an alliance to restore democratic rule. They launched a mass movement in Nepal in favour of their demands. Their main demands were the restoration of democracy, power to an all party government and a new constituent assembly. The king finally had to accede to these demands. He abdicated from the throne and Nepal became a republic.

Bolivia: Bolivia's protest movements were against the privatization of water supply. The government sold the rights to supply water to an MNC, which raised prices four times. A popular movement was launched in 2006 to force the MNC to give up rights over water supply. As a result of the movement, the contract with the MNC was cancelled and water supply was restored to municipalities at old rates.
