A short note on clare

Dear student,

Claire was John's wife and was expecting another child with him when the story begins. We are told that she and John are probably going through a rough patch as John does not come to help her with painting the furniture. Claire is a quite woman, who understands her husband's tactics of keeping himself away from her. She taunts him in a way when he comes down after putting Jo to bed. She is not heard complaining but feels less loved.
