First day at the Royal Academy of Music

A profoundly deaf seventeen-year-old Scottish girl, Evelyn Glennie, waits nervously yet excitedly on a crowded underground train platform.  It is her first day at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London.

Losing the ability to hear

Evelyn gradually loses her ability to hear. It is first noticed by her mother, when she is eight years old, when Evelyn fails to respond to the calling of her name.
