The Khilji dynasty ruled over the Delhi Sultanate from 1290 to 1320. During this time, the sultanate extended over most of north India and also parts of South India. The main ruler from this dynasty was Alauddin Khilji who ruled from 1296 to 1316. He ascended the throne after murdering his uncle, ​Jalal-ud-din Khilji, who was the founder of this dynasty. Alauddin Khilji's rule is known most for his economic administration and taxation policies. He made the land revenue tax the main form of taxation. He also imposed an extensive system of price control over essential commodities to control price rise.
