why was the narrator praying for crowd shooting all the time? Ch poets and pancakes?

Dear student,
In this chapter, we get to know about how films were made at that time.
Also, the narrator says that at that time a lot of films were shot indoors and that shooting demanded the actors to put on a lot of makeup. They had to stand in front of bright lights all day to look presentable in front of the camera although it made them feel discomfort  although it made them look hideous in real life.
It was made as if every pore on their face was to be covered by huge amounts of make-up.
Thus, the narrator felt pity for them and prayed for them.
Also, the narrator was always bored by the boy complaining all day and so he prayed for the crowd to keep the boy engaged and out of his way.
Regards
