Why not penicillin is used in gram negative bacteria?

Solution:

Penicillin works by inhibiting the production of peptidoglycan and making the cells fragile. In Gram-positive bacteria, the peptidoglycan layer is present on the outside of the cell wall while in Gram-negative bacteria it is between the membranes i.e. a lipopolysaccharide and protein layer surrounds the peptidoglycan layer of Gram-negative bacteria. So, the effect of penicillin is prevented in it.
