it is used in the production of final goods so it should be treated
as an intermediate consumption?

Machinery used by a firm is a final good because machine is the
final user of the machine This is the investment expenditure
because machine is used by the firm for several years and is of
high value
It will not be treated as intermediate consumption because machine
will be used as intermediate good when it is purchased by the
dealer of the machines
