Why is hydrogen placed above alkali metals?
Dear student,
In mendeleev's periodic table hydrogen was placed above alkali metals because hydrogen shares some same chemical properties with alkali metals. However, hydrogen also resembles the elements of VII A i.e. Halogen family. Therefore the position of hydrogen is not fixed but it is controversial.
