why does CH3 show -I effect and NH3 +I effect, is it because of the difference iv there electron configuration

Dear student,CH3— is alkyl group it show +I effect and increases electron density to near atom. CH3 is an electron donating group. It is a +I group but it does not show M effect. It donates electron rather than accepting it because in general the atoms that forms bond with carbon of CH3 are more electronegative than carbon itself. In case of NH3,due to electronegativity of N it withdraws electron and decreases electron density thus showing -I effect.Regards.
