why do we use variables such as (n,m,a,x )e.t.c. in algebra

if we need to find a particular value,we replace it temporarily as x and solve for it.

We add variables such as x, y, z , a, b ,c etc. to find a particular but undefined value that can vary.

Because they do not have any fixed value.

Because if we need to find a fixed value , we can replace it as a variable (such as x) and solve it.

Though it can be anything, you often see letters like x or y as variables in algebraicequations. The other parts of equations include constants, which are fixed quantities that cannot change, and coefficients, which are numbers that multiply a variable.

We use letters(variables) because algebra is all about variables and constants. So, to represent any value we can use letters or variables such as a, b, c, etc.
  • 0
because the algebra is of x ,y ect which means no fxied value

Hi Naman,
We use variables like x, y, etc to represent some numbers which are not known to us.It can be any number like 1,2,3,etc.
These alphabetical letters are not constant number.
    Hope it helps you.
Thank you!!

As the equation is not solved yet variables such (n,m,a,x) are kept in place of numbers to solve the equation. Keep in mind a variable does not have a fixed value

Variables are use to find the unknown quantity or value.
For example:
21+no.= 54
Sol- Let number =x
A.T.Q
=21 + x = 54
= x = 54 - 21
= x = 33
Thus, number = x = 33

Hope this will help you........

'Algebra' , a broad part of mathematics , is where variables are used mostly to represent certain terms in an equation . ... ' Variables ' are used to represent certain unknown values. x, y, z and many other letters of English alphabet , also Greek alphabet is used . These represent the unknown terms/values .

Hello there, Naman Aggrawal.

We use variables in equations and expressions to replace an unknown numbers.
The definition of a variable is- An algebraic letter used in place (replaces) a unknown number or quantity. For example, an example of an equation is a + c= b  and bd-ds (when 2 variables are put together they are being multiplied). These 2 examples or of an equation and of an expression using variables.

Hope this helps,
have a great day.
