why do we need political theory?

Political Theory as the main branch of political science examines a few eternal questions-

How should society be organised?

Why do we need government?

What form of government is best for society?

Do laws limit our freedom?

What does government owe its citizens?

What do we owe each other as citizens?

Political theory also justifies certain values such as equality, freedom, justice etc.

It examines existing definitions all of all concepts by means of analysing the vision and views of political thinkers of the past as well as the present.

It examines the extent of freedom, equality and justice at every level of society.

At a more advanced level, it analyses the real life effectivity of existing definitions to make political institutions (government, bureaucracy, etc.)

Therefore the objective of political theory is to train citizens to think and talk rationally about various political questions and events of our time.

It also helps us to predict the polity or political society.

It helps citizens to make conscious and politically aware decisions.

It is also closely intertwined with the fabric of our nation as our constitution enshrines political ideals like freedom, equality, justice, development, peace, etc. Our constitutions is inspired by Gandhian principles as well as socialist and liberal principles thereby signifying that the study of political theory is crucial to our full realization of our identities as Indians.
