why do patients with sickle cell anaemia don't have malaria?

Dear student.

People with sickle cell anaemia have RBCs which become clumped and the shape of the cells is arched. These cells last on an average of normally 15 as compared to an average lifespan of 120 days. The altered morphological shape and protein structure are not conducive for the Plasmodium species to thrive. Hence infection from malaria is prevented or reduced.

Because in sickel cell anemia the shape of red blood cells get elongated from concave and disk shape becaise of which the malarial parasites are not able to recognise and rupture it. So sickel cell anemic person cannot have malaria
