Because earth is also having two poles which are north and south poles and earth is also a natural magnet,that's why man-made magnets have also these two poles to indicate north-south direction when it is hanged.

Earth is big piece of magnet its geographic north pole is magentic south pole and the geographic south pole is magnetic north pole. Since unlike poles of a magnet attract each other so the north pole of the bar magnet is attracted by the magnetic south pole which is geographic north pole. Similarly the bar magnets south pole is attracted by the magnetic south pole which is geographic south pole.Hence, a magnet always points in north south direction.
