why did frank say that taplow sounded bitter?

Dear student

Frank says that Taplow sounded bitter because he was feeling resentful about coming to school on a day off. Taplow was not happy with the fact that Crocker-Harris was making him do extra work, even though school had finished and closed for the rest of the students. This, coupled with the fact that he did not know if he was getting his remove, made him bitter. He also resented the fact that, he had showed up to school on time as instructed, but Crocker-Harris was late.
