why are we taking you as plural ? though it speak about single person.

In first person, the plural of 'I' changes to 'We' and the plural of 'He, She' changes to 'They'. However, 'You' remains 'You' even in the plural form. There is no specific reason to it and one cannot question the logic behind the construction or syntax of any language.

Yes, you are right that 'you' is a singular though we use it as a plural, use  were, are with it. It is so because 'you' is the second person and moreover, if you have ever noticed we use 'you' for our elders as well as for our same age group and juniors too. Basically i want to say that it is also used to give to show respect for someone and this is why we use it as a plural.

GOOD LUCK!!
