Who was Shahjahan?

Dear Student,

Shahab-ud-din Muhammad Khurram, better known as, Shah Jahan, was the fifth Mughal emperor. He ruled from 1628 to 1658. Under his reign, the Mughal Empire approached the zenith of its cultural glory. Shah-Jahan was also called the Engineer king because he was hugely interested in architecture. Delicacy, beauty, detailing are the main features of the architecture of his time. His period is referred to as the Golden Age of Architecture.
Built by Shah Jahan in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, the Taj Mahal it is one of the finest and one of the most popular architectural designs in the world. Although an efficient military commander, Shah Jahan is best recognised for his architectural accomplishments.
