The ending of the story told by Jack was better as it was a nice way to teach Jo the importance of being the way you are and not changing yourself to please the world. While Jo's ending would sound more pleasing and happy, Jack's version of the ending gave Jo a reality check. Similarly, such stories can be used to develop better skills and inculcate good values in children. Jack taught a very important lesson of life to Jo, though she did not like the ending, Jack refused to mend it because from a parent's perspective harsh realities are a part and parcel of life and they should be accepted.
