Which communities are engaged in the conservation of forests..?

Tribal communities are engaged in the conservation of forests in India.They have used many means to save this like protests,movements like chipko movement etc.It is said that  about 12,000 forest protecting groups, spread all over Orissa protecting around two million hectares of forest ranging from a few years old to several generations old.
