Negative ions are formed by non metals as they are electronegative in nature so 1) the non-metals are found on right side of the periodic table and so ii) the element forming negative ions are also found in right side.
iii) the higher melting points are found in left side of the table and at the bottom of the groups.
iv) the elements forming positive ions are metals and they are found in left and middle of the periodic table.
