When dividing x^2+ax+b by (x-2) and (x-3) the remainder is zero.what are the numbers a and b

Dear Student,

Let p(x) = x2+ax+b.p(x) is divisible by (x-2) and (x-3)Hence, 2 and 3 are zeroes of the polynomial p(x)So, p(2)= 0 and p(3)=0p(2) = (2)2 + a(2) + b0 = 4 + 2a + b2a + b + 4 = 0                                        ...(1)p(3) = (3)2 + a(3) + b0 = 9 + 3a + b3a + b + 9 = 0                                        ...(2)Subtract (1) from (2)a + 5 = 0a = -5Substitute a = -5 in (1)2(-5) + b + 4 = 0-10 + b + 4 = 0b - 6 = 0  b = 6
