what would be the genetic nature of apomictic embryos?can they be called clones?

Apomixis is a form of asexual reproduction in which seeds are produced. However, apomictic seeds are not the result of fertilization. In case of apomixis, female gametophyte (embryo sac) in ovule is formed without reductional division. Diploid egg is formed in embryo sac which develops into embryo without fertilization. In this way apomictic seeds are produced which involve no meiosis and fertilization. For example: species of Asteraceae. It also includes polyembryony. Thus, apomixis is a form of asexual reproduction mimicking sexual reproduction. The genetic nature of plants produced by apomixis is the same as that of parents and hence they can be called as clones.
