What role does ASHA play in improving the health of people in a village.

ASHA stands for accredited social health activist. These are community health workers appointed under the National Rural Health mission in every village in India. ASHA are local women who act as health educators and promoters in their communities. Their roles include

1. ​motivating women to give birth in hospitals
2. bringing children to immunization clinics
3. encouraging family planning
4. treating basic illness and injury with first aid
5.  keeping demographic records
6. improving village sanitation
