​What role did the British resident play in the court of a ruler who accepted the subsidiary alliance?

a. The purpose behind subsidiary alliance was to gain strong foothold over the country.

b. It was indeed the next large scale expansion that took place under Lord Wellesley, under which an Indian ruler had to accept permanent stationing of the British army and pay subsidiary for its maintenance.

c. Though Indian rulers were protected from internal and external aggression , but by entering into this alliance the ruler was virtually signing his independence.

d. Subsidiary alliance indeed helped the British as it allowed them to meddle with internal affairs and administration.

e. The British  resident in the court thus constantly monitored the administration and the king

f. If any decision taken by the ruler was contrary to the interest of the  colonial regime, it was immediately noted by the resident.
