what is unpopular and controversial laws
Unpopular and controversial laws are those laws which are unpopular and not acceptable by most people. They are also suspicious from a constitutional point of view. They may be harmful to the rights of the people. An example of such a law was the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) (TADA) law which allowed police to arrest anybody on suspicion of terrorist activity. The law was unpopular because it was widely misused. It was also controversial because many felt it violated the fundamental right to freedom.
