what is the difference between proper and common noun

Common nouns are like town or ball, but u should ask yourself what kind of town or ball is it.

ex of common nouns

ball, city, television.

EX of proper nouns:

nike ball,new york, toshiba television.


 

so the diffrince between both of them is that the proper shows what kind of ball or what kind of television,but common nouns are not specified like ball or car.

 A common noun as the name suggests provides a common name to the whole group of a particular thing.

eg. lions, girl, boy, table, chair,forests, forts, etc.

proper nouns provide a specific or a proper name to a particular thing.

eg. rita, raj, america, taj mahal,etc.

 

here is another example:

1. Rita is a cheerful girl.

  rita is a proper noun, girl is a common noun

2. America is a very beautiful country.

  America is a proper noun, country is a common noun.

English is a funny language.

(‘English’ is a proper noun and ‘language’ is a common noun.)
