what is the difference between credit card authorization and authentication

Credit card authentication means checking validity of card details. It means transmitting card details like card number, type, code, etc. to the payment processor to ensure accuracy while making online transaction.
Credit card authorization means giving some rights or authority to make transaction. It is a process where a code is entered while entering transaction to ensure that cardholder has enough funds to make a purchase.
