What is the definition of fertilization

Fertilization is the process of fusion of male and female gametes, called sperm and egg respectively, to form the diploid zygote. This may happen both inside or outside the body. when fertilization takes place inside the body it is called in-vivo fertilization. While, when it takes place outside the body ,it is called in-vitro fertilization.
