what is raw and primary data

RAW DATA

When the numerical figures of a data have not been arranged in an order, then it is said to be a RAW DATA.The raw data hardly gives any useful information at a glance unless it is organised.

For example, Mr. Varun (Maths Teacher) wanted to find how children had performed in Maths test. He writes down the marks obtained by the students in the following way:

26, 28, 31, 38, 27, 32, 35, 39, 45,41

So in this form the data was not easy to understand as he was not able to interpret the results of the students.
Data collected by the investigator himself with a specific objective in his mind is called primary data

Raw data refers to any data object that hasnt undergone thorough processing, either manually or through automated computer software. Raw data may be gathered from various processes and IT resources.Raw data is also known as source data, primary data or atomic data.

Primary data is a type of information that is obtained directly from first-hand sources by means of surveys, observation or experimentation. It is data that has not been previously published and is derived from a new or original research study and collected at the source such as in marketing.
