What is liginin and cellulose?

Lignin is a complex polymer of aromatic alcohols. It is an organic compound commonly found in the cell wall of plant cells making them hard and protective.
Cellulose is a polysaccharide consisting of complex chain of glucose monomers. It is the main constituent of plant cell walls. It is insoluble and hard substance.

As abiopolymer, lignin is unusual because of itsheterogeneityand lack of a defined primary structure. Its most commonly noted function is the support through strengthening of wood (xylemcells) in trees.

cellulose:-Celluloseis anorganic compoundwith theformula(C6H10O5)n, apolysaccharideconsisting of a linear chain of several hundred to over ten thousandβ(1→4) linkedD-glucoseunits.Cellulose is an important structural component of the primarycell wallofgreen plants, many forms ofalgaeand theoomycetes. Some species ofbacteriasecrete it to formbiofilms.Cellulose is the most abundant organic polymer on Earth.[5]The cellulose content ofcottonfiber is 90%, that ofwoodis 4050% and that of driedhempis approximately 45%.

Cellulose is mainly used to producepaperboardandpaper. Smaller quantities are converted into a wide variety of derivative products such ascellophaneandrayon. Conversion of cellulose fromenergy cropsintobiofuelssuch ascellulosic ethanolis under investigation as an alternative fuel source. Cellulose for industrial use is mainly obtained fromwood pulpandcotton.

Some animals, particularlyruminantsandtermites, candigestcellulose with the help ofsymbioticmicro-organisms that live in their guts, such asTrichonympha. Humans can digest cellulose to some extent,however it mainly acts as ahydrophilicbulking agent forfecesand is often referred to as "dietary fiber".
