what is isotropic and anisotropic

Dear Student,

i) A solid is said to be isotropic when the properties of the solid are same in all the directions. It is derived from a greek word meaning isos i.e. same and tropos i.e. way.

ii) A solid is said to be anisotropic when the properties of the solid are different in different direction. Here aniso means different and tropos means way.
