what is difference between vntr and a probe?

VNTR (Variable Number Tandem Repeat ) is a short nucleotide sequence located in the genome and organized as a tandem repeat on that location. Whereas a probe is a short sequence of DNA or RNA of variable length which is used to detect the presence of particular nucleotide sequence in DNA or RNA samples that is complementary to the sequence in the probe.

VNTR 'S are not used in souhernblotting they are used in dna fingerprinting technique. they are different from probes in many ways like they are double stranded where as probes are single stranded , they are not labelled where aas probes are labelled.

Probe is segment of DNA or RNA and its sequence can vary depending on the sequence to be probed, it used in hybridization techniques of molecular biology to find target complementary sequence in the genome. Many different probes are used to generate DNA fingerprints.

VNTR- These are small DNA sequence arranged tandemly in many copy numbers. The copy number varies from chromosome to chromosome in an individual. The numbers of repeats show high degree of polymorphism. A probe can be used for VNTR to find out the relationship between two people, to find out the criminals or to confirm parents of a child.

Probe is polymorphic DNA that shows diversity in sequences and used in hybridization techniques of molecular biology to find target complementary sequence in the genome. Many different probes are used to generate DNA fingerprints.

VNTR- Variable number of tandem repeats is used as probes to find the diversity of genome sequences or to distinguish between two people. These are small DNA sequence arranged tandemly in many copy numbers. The copy number varies from chromosome to chromosome in an individual. The numbers of repeats show high degree of polymorphism. That is why used as probe to distinguish between two people, to find out the criminals or to confirm parents of a child.
