What is a species? Why does it matter if a species go extinct?

Solution:

Species are the fundamental unit of the taxonomic classification. A species is defined as the group of organisms which have some common characteristics and are capable of breeding.

Every species has a unique role in it's ecosystem. If one species go extinct it will disturb the food chain as well as our whole ecosystem. It is going to affect other species also. Like if you remove herbivores from the food chain, carnivores population will also suffer as they will have no food to eat.
