they both r used for comparison but similie uses words like as and like for comparison whereas metaphor does not....

 Similie -  comparision of something using the words 'like' or 'as'

Eg: as thin as a beanpole

metaphor - comparision without the use of the words like and as

 metaphor- an implict comparison is made between two unlike things that have something in common.                                                       simile -a comparison is made between two different kinds which have however at least one point in common.
