What does chase mean in canterville ghost story ?

Normally, houses that have privately owned hunting grounds, would be called "chase". The house mentioned in the story is called "Canterville Chase" and hence, it can be assumed that the house had rambling grounds around it, where people could hunt. Often hunts or "chase" would be organized of owners of such houses, to entertain guests.
