Everyrural area has a different condition. Thus, the social order alsovaries from village to village. The features of social order in ruralareas are as follows:

(i) Thesmall size of a village is suitable for more personalisedrelationships.

(ii) Thesocial structure of a village follows traditional lifestyle.Institutions such as caste and religion are stronger here.

(iii) Thesocial institutions do not welcome change easily, as compared totowns and cities.

(iv) Avillage also has a strong power structure as the people in powercontrol all the resources and resist change.

(v) It isnot easy for subordinate groups to challenge the dominant groups. Thepoor are dependent upon dominant sections for support and employment.

(vi) Thevillages are not very well connected to the towns and cities and thusnot conducive to change.

(vii) Newmodes of communication, land reforms and technology have reduced thisgap and accelerated the pace of change.
